Route 3

Vest-Telemark round

Great trip with the possibility of a stop at Soria Moria Sauna before you get into the industrial adventure at Rjukan, Gaustabanen and the World Heritage Center at Vemork. Here you have a route that contains great driving experiences as well as a large number of great attractions that make this a great day trip. There are a number of corkscrews, hairpin bends, and great stages along fantastic scenery.

The route is defined as normal

This is one of our classics that has been a recommended route for a number of years. The Gaustabanen and the industrial adventure at Rjukan are the climax. Set aside a couple of hours for this and enjoy one of Norway's best views and possibly the highest waffle press (1830 meters above sea level). A coffee break completely out of the ordinary. On a clear day, you should be able to see 1/6 of mainland Norway from here.
NB: Please note that the Google map shows the wrong route from Rjukan to Tuddal in winter as it is not possible to use winter closed roads in the routes in winter. Please verify that the route goes directly from Rjukan to Tuddal before driving.

Gaustatoppen is a popular attraction and waiting time on the track is to be expected, more so on weekends and in high season. An early departure on this route helps as the biggest rush is usually when everyone is going down in the afternoon. Check with the hotel reception before setting off on this route and by all means check the weather forecasts for the mountain passes if you are early or late in the season.

The tour starts with a great drive along Vråvatn before you eventually gear down to turn into Dalen. Here we recommend a stop at the adventure hotel Dalen Hotel and Soria Moria Sauna.
How about a bath and sauna before continuing on to Rauland and perhaps a break with Kristin at Vierli Kafeteria?

While you’re still grinning from ear to ear after a great trip so far and enjoying the view and the corkscrew down to Rjukan, maybe it’s time for lunch? Check if you can get a table with our dear colleagues at Rjukan Admini and you’re in for a historic experience and catering you’ll be looking for for a long time. Say hello to Kaja! Don’t forget to include a trip to Gaustatoppen as part of the tour package for this trip.

With a good replenishment in every way from Rjukan, the next stage starts, it’s a great trip along Gaustatoppen towards Tuddal and on to Nutheim and back to Straand. The finish up the legendary Kviteseidkleivene is a great finale and a good introduction to the well-deserved cold drink that is waiting on the terrace at our hotel. Have a good trip and drive wisely!
