Route 4

The sunshine tour

This sunshine trip came to a conclusion during Straand-Treffet 2020, which is one of the country’s largest motorcycle meetings, this is a real delight we can easily put the turn guarantee and HubDriving stamp on. The trip is not one of the longest, but with a touch of sunshine it is perhaps one of the most pleasant. Here we have a route that we believe can suit all cars and skill levels as long as you drive at your own pace. Without any breaks, the experienced can drive through this route fairly quickly, but if you want to enjoy inner Telemark’s beautiful landscape and hospitality, you can easily spend the whole day.

The route is defined as normal

Routes defined as normal are suitable for most people who have experience with somewhat demanding sections.

After a delicious breakfast at Straand Hotel, we start south along Nisser down to Fjoneferja and take this over to Fjone to drive the Fjone side down to Treungen.
If there are many cars, we recommend that you skip the ferry as there are not many cars on the legendary ferry at the same time.
Continue along beautiful Nisser via Nissedal and on to Treungen.
In the bright morning sun, it's not hard to understand that Norway's artists find a lot of inspiration in Telemark.
It's tempting to let your gaze drift over the landscape, but remember to keep your focus on the road and the next turn. Local gas stations delivering 98 octane

Check out the Norwegian-developed app Refuel provided by AMCAR in collaboration with High Octane AS for iOS and Android phones.

In Treungen, we stop for coffee and visit the Z-Museum before getting in the car and heading east over Gautefall towards Bostrak, the home of Sputnik.
Luckily, it’s not yet skiing season on Gautefallheia, so we continue via Drangedal to Kjeldal locks.
The sun is shining and it’s time for lunch.
On this trip, we recommend that you bring a packed lunch or lunch basket from the hotel so that you can find a nice stop along the route.
The canal road up from Kjeldal locks and along Flåvatn and Kviteseidvatnet is the icing on the cake, and a stop at Kviteseid Bygdetun is recommended before the finale up Kviteseidkleivene.
At the top, a pleasant after-drive awaits on the terrace.
The mood is high and the laughter is flowing – there’s plenty to talk about on the terrace throughout the evening.
Drive wisely!

How can I navigate the route?

This primarily depends on whether you have a GPS installed, navigate by App on your mobile phone or prefer paper printing.

  • Import the file to your route planning tool (e.g. Garmin’s Basecamp or Tom Tom’s MyDrive)
  • Export the route to your GPS in the usual way
  • Check that the route is calculated correctly in your GPS (It is recommended that the GPS is set to select the fastest route and any avoidance is turned off for the route to be calculated as described).
