This tour starts with a 50-minute drive to Nordeide quay where you take the ferry over to Ortnevik on the south side of the Sognefjord.

This does not run very often, so be sure to check the timetables!
This is a small ferry, so please book in advance by calling 415 36 317.
The 56 km (approx. 1 hour drive) from Ortnevik to Oppedal is narrow and winding and has fantastic views of the Sognefjord all the way.
You’ll cross over to the north side of the Sognefjord to Sande.
The last 84 km is a national tourist route that runs alongside Viksdalsvatnet lake before climbing up to Gaularfjellet.
A stop at Likholefossen waterfall is almost obligatory where you can walk over the roaring waterfall.
Another stop at Utsikten is recommended before starting the steep and winding road down to the fjord and on to Balestrand.
Twists and turns, terrain and more twists and turns, here you get 25 miles of experiences and a lot of driving pleasure.

  • Export the route to your GPS in the usual way
  • Check that the route is calculated correctly in your GPS (It is recommended that the GPS is set to select the fastest route and any avoidance is turned off for the route to be calculated as described).
