Here you drive on side roads through beautiful agricultural landscape. After Vikeså, turn off on RV 503 and drive towards Byrkjedal. Here you come to Gloppedalsura, which is worth a short stop. It consists of boulders lying on top of an end moraine. Ura was created 10,000 years ago when the glaciers melted away from Gloppedalen.
An old legend says that in the old days there was a farm in Gloppedalen, but the people there were godless, they drank and fought during the holy days of Christmas. Then the mountain fell down and buried the whole farm, but for seven whole years people could hear a cock crowing under the rocks. It had gotten into a grain bin.
Not long after Gloppedalsura, it's time to take a breather at Byrkjedalstunet. Here you can enjoy a good cup of coffee and waffles. You can also visit the candle foundry with a local art shop.
The trip then continues towards Dirdal on RV 45 where you drive in scenic surroundings through Olterdal and towards Ålgård. Just before Ålgård, turn left and drive a few hundred meters on the E39 before turning off towards Bryne. Here we drive over Høgjæren and into the realm of the Jæren farmer. With a flat landscape and the iconic stone fences, the trip offers the typical features of the region. Here you practically drive through the food platter of Rogaland. As you approach Varhaug, you can make a short stop at Ystepikene and taste some fantastic, delicious local cheese with a bit of history thrown in.
We are now approaching the landscape and light that created the Jær painters. And what could be better than a stop at Kitty Kielland Bay on Ogna and perhaps a dip in the sea?
After Ogna, we wind our way on winding roads past Hellvik and back to Egersund. There, delicious food and drinks await after an eventful journey.
