Mountains and culture

This is a route that takes us to the higher altitudes, on this trip we will visit Rauland and Hovden, both of which are well-known ski resorts. After a nice start along Vråvatn, the tour starts with a recommended visit to Åmdals Verk Gruver. The tour then follows rural roads through small farms and cultural landscapes.

This is a great mountain trip where you will experience many great driving experiences along the way, while this is the trip with the greatest opportunities for cultural enrichment. You will have the opportunity to experience much of what Fjell-Telemark has to offer.

The tour starts with two great museums in a row after driving the beautiful roads along Vråvatn, where there is plenty of room to enjoy yourself. The first stop is Åmdals Verk Gruver and after only a short drive, a stop at Grimdalstunet is recommended to experience Anne Grimdalen's artwork and beautiful sculptures. She was considered one of our foremost sculptors in the 20th century. After a solid cultural refreshment, the next focus is on good driving experiences via Bykle and towards the skiing gems of Hovden and Rauland. The trip along Riksvei 9 towards Hovden and on towards Haukeligrend offers many opportunities for great driving experiences, here you just have to enjoy all the sensory impressions. At both Hovden and Rauland, there are plenty of opportunities to grab a bite to eat or stop for a coffee. Finally, there is the possibility of a final cultural element, on the way to Dalen at Eidsborg, you will pass the Vest-Telemark Museum, where a stop is recommended. Have you tried the delicious sour cream porridge they serve? Not that, try it... After a lot of thin air at altitude, perhaps a dip or sauna at Soria Moria Sauna would be a good idea? The finale of this tour is simply delightful, as you drive up to Skafså and on along Vråvatn where the tour started. With the sun at your back and loose on the terrace and afterdrive, this forms a great setting for the last few kilometers. Drive wisely and be aware that the asphalt can be a little slippery in some parts along the lake.
