Route 10

Cycling routes

Skykularuta is actually a variant of Egeruta. We cycle south to Dalane and Bjerkreim, where we take a detour to Skykula before returning to the same route as Egeruta.

The route is defined as normal

Routes defined as normal are suitable for most people who have experience with somewhat demanding sections.

The characteristics of this round trip are flat, hilly, long climbs and varied terrain.
This round trip starts by cycling south towards Bryne and then turning to the east where we cycle towards Høg-Jæren and meet the first climb up towards Karlsbu.

After Karlsbu, we cycle towards Brusali where a nice descent takes us all the way down to the coast again and to the Brusand beach area.
From Brusand we cycle into the Dalane region, which is described as an undulating landscape.
slightly hilly.
The journey from Brusand takes us towards Egersund (note that the municipality is called Eigersund while the town is called Egersund), but a few kilometers from Egersund we take a detour to Ege (or Eige).
For those who wish, the hill up to Ege can be used to get your heart rate up.
The journey further on brings us down to Tengesdal and an easy cycling terrain towards the E39.
Just before arriving at the E39, we turn left and then cycle parallel to the E39 and then to the center of Bjerkreim.
From Bjerkreim Kyrkje we will cycle along FV 110 and initially this is done on light and fine surfaces but it does not go so many kilometers before the climbs start.
The distance up to the radar station is about 18 km and you could say that the distance is divided into three parts – almost like three flights of stairs.
After a breather at the radar station at Skykula, you return to the center of Bjerkreim and then cycle to the rest area (Circle K) at Vikeså.
After hopefully a nice break, we will continue towards Nedrebø, often characterized as the inner fillet of Rogaland when we think of cultural landscapes and cycling friendliness.
On arrival at Nedrebø, if you have more energy left, you can test a short “puncher” hill of a couple of hundred meters before turning left towards the E39.
At the E39, you will cycle a few kilometers on this very busy road.
We recommend that you cycle in two rows here so that cars behind you must overtake the “bike train” properly.
After cycling about 4 km, we leave the E39 to cycle around Kyllingstad before cycling back onto the E39.
At Skurve, after cycling about 2 km, we leave the E39 for good and cycle on a well-sheltered cycle path to Ålgård and then back to Sandnes.
If you want a shorter version of this trip, you can cycle back and forth via Ålgård.
This will involve a distance of approximately 64 km in each direction.
