Route 1

Sky and sea

On this tour, we focus on open landscapes between sky and sea, surrounded by stunning sandy beaches and views made to be enjoyed. That’s why the tour is shorter than the other routes, designed to revitalize body and soul after some long days on the bike.

The journey starts on the E39 north.
After a 20-minute drive, take a detour downtown Stavanger for a cup of coffee in the colorful street and a visit to Stavanger's most alternative and trendy neighborhood.
Here you'll find cafés of all colors and can replenish your energy for the rest of the trip.

Continue along the E39 over Tasta until you reach Tananger and continue to Tungenes Lighthouse.
A cultural lighthouse from 1828 that also offers a unique collection of boats. After a brisk walk, take the sea road back towards Tananger via RV 509 and aim for Sola Strandhotell.
Here you can choose to enjoy a classic fish soup with a walk on the beach.
Before heading back to Kronen Gaard Hotel.
Alternatively, you can choose to extend your beach trip to some of Europe’s finest beaches and visit Orre or Bore Stranden via Nordsjøvegen.
Not in relaxation mode?
How about booking a surfing lesson with one of our partners for an active end to the day?
Then you’ve really earned a delicious 3-course meal with something good to drink in the evening!

How can I navigate the route?

This primarily depends on whether you have a GPS installed, navigate by App on your mobile phone or prefer paper printing.
Here we describe the most common workflows:

  • Import the file to your route planning tool (e.g. Garmin’s Basecamp or Tom Tom’s MyDrive)
  • Export the route to your GPS in the usual way
  • Check that the route is calculated correctly in your GPS (It is recommended that the GPS is set to select the fastest route and any avoidance is turned off for the route to be calculated as described).
