This tour starts with a 50-minute drive to Nordeide quay where you take the ferry across to Ortnevik on the south side of the Sognefjord.

This ferry doesn't run very often, so be sure to check the timetable! This is a small ferry, so please book in advance by calling 415 36 317. The 56 km long (approx. 1 hour drive) from Ortnevik to Oppedal is narrow and winding and has a fantastic view of the Sognefjord all the way. You'll cross over to the north side of the Sognefjord to Sande. The last 84 km is a national tourist route that runs along Viksdalsvatnet lake before the climb starts up to Gaularfjellet. A stop at Likholefossen is almost mandatory, where you can walk over the roaring waterfall. Another stop at Utsikten is recommended before you start the steep and winding road down to the fjord and on to Balestrand. Curves, terrain and more curves, here you get 25 miles of experiences and a lot of driving pleasure.

  • Export the route to your GPS in the usual way
  • Check that the route is calculated correctly in your GPS (It is recommended that the GPS is set to select the fastest route and any avoidance turned off for the route to be calculated as described).
