Route 14: Boating experience on the Telemark Canal
It is recommended that GPS is set to select the fastest route and any avoidance turned off in order for the route to be calculated as described.
Fantastic driving experiences combined with a great boat trip on the Telemark Canal.
This tour is also recommended as a great experience on the way to or from Straand Hotel, if you want to combine this with a trip on the Telemark Canal.
The drive starts along Nisser to Steane, where you turn off towards Drangedal in hilly, winding forest terrain. In Bostrak you can stretch your legs and visit Sputnik at his museum there. From Drangedal, drive on towards Kjelldal locks and Ulefoss, where you can park your motorcycle (free of charge). From Ulefoss, take a bus to Lunde, where you board the canal boats on the Telemark Canal for an impressive voyage along Europe's "eighth wonder", as the canal was called when it opened in 1892. It is recommended that you eat lunch on board the boat, or alternatively lunch is recommended at Spiseriet Øvre Verket if it is too long to wait until you are on board. From Ulefoss, take the old Fjågesundvegen road along the Telemark Canal, which is one of our most popular fairground rides. At Kviteseid gamle kyrkje, which was built around 1260, the tour continues into the popular Kviteseidkleivene where the tour ends with steep, winding climbs and hairpin bends back to Straand Hotel. How about an after-drive on the terrace?
