The beginning of what is now Engø Gård was Pihls Pensjonat - one of Tjøme's many summer guesthouses. It was the romantic Frithjof Pihl and his sister Daisy who opened a guesthouse on Engø in 1924. Frithjof's English wife Babs brought British charm and elegance to the place. The same atmosphere remains and is often referred to as the "Engø feeling".
Engø gård became part of De Historiske Hotel & Spisesteder in the summer of 2009. This is a unique membership organization consisting of many of Norway's most charming hotels and restaurants. We are also proud to be part of De Historiske's new concept Hubriding.
The beginning of what is now the Engø Gård hotel and restaurant business was Pihls Pensjonat - one of Tjøme's many summer guesthouses, which enjoyed a golden age until the end of the 1950s. It was the romantic Frithjof Pihl and his sister Daisy who started a guesthouse on Engø in 1924. Daisy took care of the summer guests and ran the rental business, while Frithjof ran the farm and was otherwise a handyman.
