Destination of the year on two or four wheels to Skjolden
Experience amazing roads, untraveled and Nordic food inspired by Asian flavors with one of the country’s best chef teams at Skjolden Hotel this summer – this is definitely the spring and summer destination.
History
It is said that Skjolden had its first inn in 1818, run by Rudolf Kramer. It then passed through several hands before the Galde family owned and ran the place from around 1908 to 2013. For a time, the hotel was owned by an investor, before Aslak and Siri Dalehaug took over the helm in 2015. In the years since, the hotel has undergone a significant transformation and renovation to create a contemporary and modern feel.
Take time to experience Luster at the heart of Sognefjorten – a fantastic journey through Norway
Luster has so much to offer. We recommend that you have plenty of time when you visit us. On the menu you can choose between glacier hiking in Jostedalen, countless mountain hikes, skiing trips or shorter family trips. It’s not far to the nearest fishing lake or fjord fishing. Take a dip in the icy fjord or a swim indoors in the hotel’s swimming pool in Fjordstova.
This summer, hosts Siri and Aslak Dalehaug have brought in one of the country’s best and most experienced culinary teams, with experience from the World Cup and the Olympics, to delight travelers and hotel guests. The hosts are making Luster a destination for motorists and motorcyclists who appreciate untraveled food and beautiful Norwegian nature.
The chef team consists of:
- Christoffer Greiner Fallet (World Cup and Olympic silver medalist)
- Thorvald Gabestad Nørsett (deputy manager)
- Niaz Smestad (chef)
- Ole Jacob Bjønnum (chef)
- Tiril Faannessen (restaurant manager, silver winner from NM i servitørfag in 2024)
- Nore E Martinesen (chef)
The Telemark native, Christoffer Greiner Fallet, started his career at a small artist hotel, Nutheim, in his home village of Flatdal. He has previously worked at Vaaghals and CODE, where he also served his apprenticeship under Christer Rødseth. For the past year, he has worked at Feinschmecker under the management of Lars Erik Underthun. Throughout the 2025 season, Christoffer and his team will deliver gastronomic surprises, great dining experiences and fine dining to the restaurant overlooking the Sognefjord, alacarte to the hotel’s other restaurant and snacks to the bar’s guests. All based on untraveled ingredients from suppliers you can see from the hotel’s restaurant. The drive to Skjolden is an experience in itself, making it one of the obvious spring and summer destinations for groups, clubs, families and individual travelers.
