CHASE THE NEXT HORIZON: THE NEW YAMAHA TÉNÉRÉ 700 AND TÉNÉRÉ 700 RALLY

Yamaha’s iconic Ténéré needs no introduction. The bike that dominated the demanding Paris Dakar Rally in the 1990s will forever be remembered as one of the many legendary motorcycles in Yamaha’s history, and the Ténéré 700 honored that legacy when the road to the Next Horizon was unveiled in 2018. Powered by the acclaimed CP2 engine and ready for true adventure riding in a lighter and more accessible package, the Ténéré 700 was an instant success that has transformed adventure motorcycling. Despite increased competition, the Ténéré 700 has remained the best-selling bike in its class, and now, in 2025, a new generation Ténéré 700 will build on the Ténéré legacy. It’s still a thrilling machine inspired by Yamaha’s rally successes, but is now even more accessible to a wider range of riders.

Alongside a new standard Ténéré 700 comes a lower seat height variant with shorter suspension for riders who don’t want the highest riding position. The new Ténéré 700 Rally, on the other hand, offers an intensified off-road riding experience and higher specification for the more discerning off-road enthusiast.
With a higher specification, bold new rally styling and subtle but important developments to the critically acclaimed CP2 platform, the 2025 Ténéré 700 range gets a serious upgrade that keeps Yamaha at the forefront of this increasingly popular segment.
While Yamaha has increased the specification of the Ténéré 700, including the introduction of YCC-T electronic throttle control, riding modes and upgraded suspension, the design team has been careful to add technology for technology’s sake. Electronic aids increase rider engagement while never becoming overwhelming or unnecessary, and adjustments to meet the rider’s personal needs or road conditions are always efficient and easily accessible.

More than ever, the Ténéré 700 is the motorcycle that enables riders to travel without limits. Its broad appeal makes it the best choice for a wide variety of riders, from everyday riders who enjoy the appeal and presence only the iconic Ténéré can provide, to serious off-road riders who like to seek out more challenging terrain. With an A2 version available, Ténéré has 700 riders of all ages and experience levels covered.
Where Ténéré leads, others are sure to follow in pursuit of The Next Horizon.

LATEST YAMAHA ADVENTURE DESIGN

Inspired by Yamaha’s famous rally-raid bikes past and present, the 2025 Ténéré 700 has an all-new look combined with ergonomics designed to be more efficient for both road and off-road riding. The silhouette of the Ténéré 700 has become iconic. It’s tall and upright at the front, before tapering to a compact rear. It takes the lessons learned from decades of rally raid victories and harmoniously blends functionality, ergonomics and performance to deliver the most engaging ride whatever the conditions. The front design provides both excellent visibility and protection for the driver, not least thanks to the large windshield. At the same time, the minimalist mid-rear section provides a driving position that gives the driver plenty of room to move their body, with special provision for upright driving where shifting body weight is crucial for off-road driving. Compared to the previous model, the fuel tank has been moved forward. The focus has been on balancing size with optimal ergonomics, while retaining the classic Ténéré design language. The top of the 16-liter tank now sits lower down than that found on the previous generation model, and these changes contribute to a more balanced weight distribution and better handling overall.

The center section of the 2025 Ténéré 700 is designed not only to facilitate a balanced visual transition between the front and rear of the bike, but also to provide a comfortable and efficient saddle for the rider – an area where they can easily shift their body weight around while riding off-road. The design is uncomplicated, with an emphasis on providing a secure contact surface between the bike and the rider’s legs, and facilitating good airflow in both sitting and standing positions. The new rally-inspired seat is also classic Ténéré, and is long and narrow in design. Compared to the previous two-piece design, it offers greater freedom of movement while riding.
Along with all the practical factors behind the styling, Yamaha’s design team has also been keen to ensure that they created an eye-catching motorcycle, which captures the essence of off-road riding – it is a Ténéré after all.
From the front, the Ténéré 700 has the classic ‘rally tower’ look. The new headlight design features four individual LED light units stacked in an aluminum structure, in the style of Yamaha’s modern rally racers, with a ‘Y’ shaped mount giving a distinctly fresh look. Where many adventure bikes can look bulky, the Ténéré 700’s new body panels convey a sense of lightness but remain rugged and ready to handle anything the rider throws at it. It’s a motorcycle that has true off-road capabilities, and the 21″ front wheel isn’t just there for show. It’s designed to tackle any type of road, whether paved or unpaved. With plenty of ground clearance and long-travel suspension, it handles even the worst conditions. New color-matched hand guards not only confirm the Ténéré 700’s off-road credentials, but have the practical benefits of providing the rider with protection from both the elements and bushes and branches.
The Ténéré’s distinctive look is completed by two exciting new color schemes, designed to emphasize the bike’s features. Standard and lower seat height models come with the choice of Frozen Titanium, which highlights the machine’s rugged nature, or Yamaha’s classic Icon Blue – a variation on the classic color that has adorned YZ crossers and WR enduro bikes since 1996.

RACE-DEVELOPED ADJUSTABLE FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM

Any off-road bike needs top-level shock design, with long travel specifically designed for the job, and the new Ténéré 700 benefits from race-developed front suspension.
The new upside-down fork is designed to tackle even the most hostile terrain, with flex-resistant 43 mm tubes and 210 mm travel (190 mm on the low seat height version) contributing to an impressive 240 mm ground clearance (225 mm on the low seat height version). The fork on the Ténéré 700 is now fully adjustable. Compression and rebound damping characteristics can be fine-tuned by turning screws at each end of the fork legs, while the 15mm preload adjustment is a new feature easily accessible at the top of each fork leg.
Yamaha’s design team has also developed new yokes, with a forged aluminum clamp and a cast aluminum crown combining to provide extra strength, while helping to give the motorcycle a very light and natural feel that makes the rider feel at one with the machine.

RALLY DEVELOPED REAR SHOCK ABSORBER UNIT

Just as the new front suspension of the Ténéré 700 exceeds the expectations of a middleweight adventure bike, the updated rear suspension ups the ante with its fine response and easily accessible adjustment.
Designed to offer a smooth and stable ride both on road and off-road, the new setup combines an all-new rear link design with an updated shock absorber. This allows easy adjustment of preload, compression and rebound damping.

Developed as a result of feedback from Yamaha’s rally-raid program, the new progressive linkage increases suspension travel while maintaining the same 200mm of wheel travel as the previous Ténéré 700 (180mm for the low seat height version). With a clear aim to improve suspension performance in the most demanding conditions, without compromising comfort in normal riding, the main body of the sophisticated rear shock is made from aluminum for superior heat dissipation. This is combined with a separate piggyback reservoir tank, which keeps the oil cool and is pressurized to prevent air bubbles from forming when the shock absorber is fully extended. The remote adjuster is designed to allow changes to be made quickly and without tools, while an oversized rubber stop provides extra damping in extreme driving conditions. The result is a rear suspension setup that delivers outstanding driver feedback and consistent performance no matter how rough the conditions.

PREMIUM DASHBOARD AND SWITCHGEAR ENHANCE THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The new Ténéré 700 Series debuts with a premium 6.3-inch full-color TFT dashboard with unprecedented style and functionality.
Stacked vertically in a design inspired by rally raid roadbooks, the display offers easy smartphone connectivity to unlock a range of features, including seamless integration of phone calls and messages, music and turn-by-turn navigation through the MyRide app. These features can be controlled using the left-hand switch layout, allowing the driver to control the features without having to stop or take their hands off the handlebars. To facilitate seamless integration with the user’s smartphone, the motorcycle comes with a USB-C charging point as standard. The socket is protected by a waterproof cap and is conveniently located on the right side of the cockpit, ensuring that mobile devices remain fully charged on even the longest rides. The attention to detail doesn’t stop there. Drivers can choose between two distinct dashboard themes, giving them information in the way they prefer. The Street theme displays the information in a classic style, where the screen is dominated by a digital visualization of an analogue tachometer. The Explorer theme is more modern and dynamic and is designed to be easy to read while driving off-road, which is achieved by placing the key information front and center in the driver’s field of vision.

Whichever theme is chosen, the new 6.3-inch TFT display allows the rider to clearly check road speed, rpm and navigation, while other features include a fuel gauge, average fuel consumption, ambient temperature and a gear indicator. Complementing the new TFT display, the bike is equipped with new switch panels that offer greater functionality than those found on the previous generation Ténéré 700. This makes it easy and intuitive to scroll through the many functions. Flexible printed circuits are ergonomically designed for easy operation, and are used so that each switch can handle multiple functions using a five-way joystick. The turn signals have also been upgraded, with new functions added to the switch: three-flash signals or continuous flashes with automatic cancellation.

UPDATED CP2 ENGINE WITH YCC-T

Yamaha’s critically acclaimed 690cc parallel-twin engine gets an update on the new Ténéré 700. Most prominently, the use of YCC-T (Yamaha chip-controlled throttle control) which in turn enables switchable throttle response for the first time on the CP2 platform.
The CP2’s linear power delivery and soulful nature have always been one of the Ténéré 700’s unique selling points. Yamaha engineers have worked hard to further enhance these strengths while meeting the requirements of EU5+ emissions regulations. The ingredients remain the same, with the 270-degree crankshaft continuing to provide the heartbeat of this award-winning powerhouse, but the introduction of the YCC-T now gives riders the option of two selectable modes with different characteristics, Sport and Explorer, with the latter offering a softer throttle response. Switching modes is as simple as pressing a button on the switch controls, giving riders the throttle response they prefer.
The air intake duct has also been updated from previous Ténéré 700 editions. This is now shorter and contributes to a more powerful torque curve lower in the rev range, which is a clear advantage when riding off-road.
A number of other mechanical updates have been introduced, all focused on improving the interaction between rider and motorcycle. The clutch actuator has been moved forward (35° clockwise) and a protective cover with a smooth, minimized shape has been added. These updates ensure that the clutch actuator and protective cover are not in the way of the rider’s legs, whether in a seated or standing position, and provide more space for the rider to move around. Other improvements include updated internal parts of the gearbox for smoother gear changes. The number of convex pins and concave pins in the gears has been increased from five to six between first and third gear to reduce shocks. At the same time, the pin angle has been modified on gears four to six to reduce slop when stepping on and off the throttle. Together, the changes make the motorcycle more refined and capable, and even more in tune with the rider.

ABS AND TCS THAT CAN BE SWITCHED OFF FOR OPTIMAL OFF-ROAD CONTROL

To give the Ténéré 700 rider ultimate control in an off-road environment, the traction control and ABS systems can be switched off for manual control on loose surfaces.
TCS has two settings, on and off, and can be deselected via the menu on the TFT dashboard, while a large button on the side of the dashboard can be used to control the ABS settings. For ABS, Mode 1 is standard and activates the anti-lock braking system on both wheels, in line with legal requirements for public roads, while Mode 2 disables ABS at the rear only. Mode 2 is particularly useful on gravel roads, allowing the driver to use rear wheel spin to ease steering but have the safety of ABS at the front. Mode 3 turns off ABS intervention and gives full braking control to the rider, giving experienced riders maximum control on loose surfaces. These modes can be selected via the menu on the TFT dashboard. In addition, for faster and more convenient operation, a long press on the dedicated ABS button will turn off the ABS system and TCS.

TOUGHER THAN THE REST: THE STEEL FRAME GETS EVEN STRONGER

The Ténéré 700 is the toughest middleweight on the market, and its backbone is still a double cradle tubular steel frame connected to a gravity-cast aluminum swingarm designed to provide unprecedented strength and rigidity.
The main frame is constructed from high-strength tubular steel, and the strength of the main frame makes it possible to use thinner materials – keeping the overall weight of the machine as low as possible. The frame downtube works in conjunction with the aluminum engine guard to protect the sump from serious damage in the event of a heavy impact, while the integrated rear frame allows complete luggage options from Yamaha Genuine Accessories to be fitted. The Ténéré 700’s seat height remains at 875 mm (860 mm for the low seat height version) and continues to be accessible to many riders thanks to its narrow waistline. The new rally light seat combines with a new fuel tank and modified clutch cover to provide more space for the rider to move around, making it easy to switch between on- and off-road riding.

Ergonomically, the driving position remains the same as on the much-loved first-generation model, but comfort is improved thanks to a reshaping of the front part of the seat. Passenger comfort has also been improved, with the transition to a full saddle. This helps to provide better contact between rider and passenger.
2025 The Ténéré 700 model features several significant enhancements to increase strength and increase durability when riding hard off-road. The muffler bracket has been upgraded and a patch has been added to the backstay. The luggage rack mounting points (accessory) have also been reinforced, while the support switch has been redesigned and relocated following customer feedback.
Another important update on the 2025 model of the Ténéré 700 is new, larger footrests as standard. First used on the Ténéré 700 World Raid, the new footpegs are 10mm wider than those that were standard on the previous model. These really help the rider provide steering input through the footpegs when riding on loose surfaces.

TÉNÉRÉ 700 RALLY: THE TOUGHEST LIGHTWEIGHT FOR THOSE WHO CAN HANDLE EXTREME DRIVING

While the Ténéré 700 remains the best motorcycle for adventurers who want to live without limitations, the Ténéré 700 Rally offers an even tougher option for those who challenge themselves with more extreme rides.
To reflect this, the Ténéré 700 Rally gets even better specifications to further expand its capabilities.
Paying homage to the iconic historic Ténéré rally bikes, the Ténéré 700 Rally immediately shows where it stands with its dedicated heritage-inspired livery and the iconic high front fender that is synonymous with rally raid machines. Paying homage to the legendary Dakar-winning machines of the 1980s, the blue bodywork is complemented by gold-colored rims and features the iconic speedblock design used on Yamaha factory racers of the time.
The Ténéré 700 Rally offers more ground clearance, better off-road control and longer suspension. Based on Yamaha’s hardcore Ténéré 700 Extreme, the Rally gets an advanced, fully adjustable KYB fork. With reinforced tubes and a special coating to reduce static friction, the stroke is increased by 20mm over standard, to give a front wheel travel of 230mm. A similar stroke increase on the rear shock contributes to a ground clearance of 255 mm, giving the Ténéré 700 Rally the ability to tackle sand dunes and cross rivers when the road ends.

<span style=font size 16px>The Ténéré 700 Rally offers extra protection against tree stumps and rocky terrain and features a tough 4 mm aluminum sump guard The rally light kit is also unique to the Rally variant <span>

The seat offers a slightly different ergonomic package to the standard model, with a higher and more upright riding position to make it easier for the rider to move around the bike. The Ténéré 700 Rally has a saddle that’s thicker than the standard saddle and features a soft dual-material finish with an embossed Rally logo. It provides extra comfort when seated and has an impressive seat height of 910 mm. The Ténéré 700 Rally’s role as an extremely capable mountain bike can also be seen in its lightweight titanium footpegs.
Just like the items seen on dedicated competition machines, the footpegs are 228g lighter than standard and have a larger contact patch. They are heavily serrated to reduce pressure on the rider’s boots, increase grip and provide greater control for riders who like to influence steering through the footpegs. The Ténéré 700 Rally also features an additional dashboard theme called Raid, a roadbook-inspired layout that removes much of the information needed on the road and prioritizes information most useful for off-road riding. Confirming the bike’s rally raid credentials, Ténéré Yamaha Rally Team riders Pol Tarrés and Alessandro Botturi will compete in major rally raid events using GYTR-equipped versions of the Ténéré 700 Rally.
