New and cool design – this is guaranteed to be a winner
10 years after its launch, one of Norway’s best-selling and most popular motorcycles gets a big boost with a new design and new gear technology.
The MT07 has delivered from day one and has only gotten better and better throughout this decade. High quality, excellent driving characteristics, a fierce and spirited cross plane engine that delivers a lot of driving pleasure and high fin-factor at a very reasonable price. As far as I remember, a new MT07 cost about 97,000 kroner in 2014 and is still competitive on price. The Y-AMT system is an automatic manual transmission that can be driven in a full automatic mode, a semi-automatic mode, or as a manual transmission with pedal shifting on the steering column. The journalist has just completed a week with this system on the MT09 model and is simply delighted. The system is simply fantastically well-functioning and gives the driver a completely new driving experience. The variation possibilities are many and varied and it will never be the same to ride bikes with the traditional clutch and gearbox. Even the quick-change systems can’t compete with this. The Y-AMT system offers everything from comfort, good flow, distinctive but seamless shifting to fierce electronic and lightning-fast shifting with the pedals on the left handlebar.
The gear pedals are located on the underside of this control and are shifted with the index finger and thumb.

The 2025 model will be the first MT-07 to get YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) and thus electronic throttle. With this addition, we get the opportunity to choose between three different riding modes: Sport, Street and Custom. In Custom mode, it is possible to choose between three different power settings, two levels of traction control and the option to deactivate traction control.
The frame’s stiffness has been increased by 12-13% thanks to the larger diameter and thickness of the tubes and reinforcement plates, but it retains the same weight as the MY24 at 14.8 kg.
The CP2 engine delivers 74 hp and 68 Nm and has a festive mid-range that delivers plenty of powder up the rev range. The Yamaha MT07 is undoubtedly one of the most festive models in this segment, probably also one of the reasons why it has topped the sales statistics for many many years.
The 2025 model has been given a new and beautiful TFT instrument that in itself enhances the experience of quality and usability. With the experience I have gained with the MT09 in recent weeks, I am more than sure that the MT07 with these features will grow and is guaranteed to become even more popular with the Norwegian motorcyclist. Yamaha’s AMT technology is better than the competition’s and is therefore guaranteed to be popular. I encourage everyone to push themselves to go outside the comfort zone represented here by the traditional gearbox and shift pedal on the left foot. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
