Surprise of the year – nomination 9 – Triumph Scrambler 400 X

What does it take to be nominated for “surprise of the year”?

Motorcycles nominated for this award should first and foremost surprise the jury by delivering more driving pleasure and functionality than can be expected within a segment and price range.
The candidates should be outside the mainstream category and not represent something everyone buys and be able to stand on their own two feet by satisfying the jury’s strict requirements:

  • To surprise and or challenge everything in the “mainstream” category
  • Quality
  • Ergonomics
  • Driving performance and production of driving pleasure
  • Driving pleasure per dollar invested
  • Design and sensuality/sex factor
  • Smile factor

The nomination and the award are intended to help the market see new stars that are overshadowed by the mainstream models.

Triumph has gradually developed a large scrambler range and the 400 X is the latest addition to this line, which ranges from 400 to 1200 cubic meters.
The A2 models are often not considered by the adult riders who belong to the tonage and powder generation, not even in the motorcycle industry do you go down in size, it is often seen as a bit fussy and not very masculine =0) If you ride long distances and carry a lot of cargo on trips, this of course makes sense, but if you are an everyday rider with varied use of the motorcycle, you can actually enjoy an A2 bike much more, which is significantly lighter and in many ways much more fun to ride.
The modern single-cylinder engines deliver a lot of power and are incredibly affordable to run and in the A2 class they easily compete with the two-cylinder engines that are often not as fun to ride.
The component level of the Scrambler 400 X is high and consistently delivers more than we would expect.
Especially when you take the price of 72,000 kroner into account.
The frame, swingarm, dampers, brakes and engine deliver a riding experience and fun factor that’s right up there with the big boys, and if you’re going off the beaten track it’s a big advantage to carry less weight.

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a huge range of uses, from city riding and day commuting to long, fun rides on gravel or asphalt.
This is an outstanding touring companion and technically the bike is capable of handling Norwegian conditions particularly well, especially poor surfaces.
The 19-inch front wheel works well with the frame and shocks and the lovely upright seating position makes it easy to throw the scrambler around on all types of surfaces.
It’s easy to mobilize in cornering combinations and it’s easy to stay on track even if there are cracks or bumps in the road.
The engine has a smooth, nimble and comfortable throttle response and delivers much more power than expected in the upper part of the rev range.
It’s no problem at all to make quick overtakes at 80 – 100 km/h.
With less mass and weight, it’s actually easier and more fun to change lane choices in tight or closing corners.

The design is modern, sensual and appealing in every way.
During the test drive, people always came up to us to “like” the design, which appeals to all age groups.
The sound of the engine is deep and pleasant and the instrument, which has both an analog and a digital display, simply works perfectly.
Since its launch, the model has sold very well in Sweden and will probably be at the very top of the sales statistics for the current year.
