Engø Gård Hotel
The beginning of what is now Engø Gård was Pihls Pensjonat – one of Tjøme’s many summer boarding houses.
It was the romantic Frithjof Pihl and his sister Daisy who opened a guest house on Engø in 1924.
Frithjof’s English wife Babs added British charm and elegance to the place.
The same atmosphere lingers and is described by many as the “Engø feeling”. Engø gård became part of De Historiske Hotel & Spisesteder in the summer of 2009.
This is a unique membership organization consisting of many of Norway’s most charming hotels and restaurants.
We are also proud to be part of De Historiske’s new concept Hubriding.
The beginning of what is now the hotel and restaurant company Engø Gård was Pihls Pensjonat – one of Tjøme’s many summer boarding houses, which enjoyed a heyday until the late 1950s.
It was the romantic Frithjof Pihl and his sister Daisy who started a guest house on Engø in 1924.
Daisy looked after the summer guests and ran the rental business, while Frithjof ran the farm and was otherwise a handyman.
Hubriding means that, based at one of De Historiske Hotel, you choose from many defined riding routes located in the area surrounding the hotel. The routes we offer go through some of Norway’s very best terrain and include tens of thousands of bends, spectacular mountain passes, asphalt, gravel, wonderful nature experiences and the opportunity to eat well at local establishments. We’ve included sights and eateries for you to visit in the routes.
You will be able to choose from a number of routes and route combinations that make it possible to choose daily stages of varying length and difficulty. The concept has been developed by Straand Hotel in Vrådal together with Norway’s leading motorcycle enthusiasts.
